Ku Kia'i Poli'ahu translates to "Guardians of Poli'ahu", who is the snow goddess of Mauna Kea. As a Native Hawaiian, the desecration of sacred lands is a significant issue to me. I decided to depict Poli'ahu as the mountain with her protectors in front. The lack of a face on the Goddess and the protesters represents the telescope advocates overlooking indigenous peoples and their beliefs. They are so eager to see the stars that they are blind to the people in front of them.
